Sometimes, when a given comic's creator leaves a strip for whatever reason, the strip continues with other creative types quietly taking over the reins so as to retain readers and revenues from those outlets which carry it. "Brevity" is one such strip, featuring gags from myself and a handful of other talented mystery men. I still pitch on this every week, if only to give these dumb jokes someplace to go besides the piles of Post-It Notes that cover nearly every surface in my apartment. Dan Thompson, the artist, is to be commended for serving so ably as a cypher for our collective weekly entries-- the poor guy gets a week's worth of conceptual joke-em-ups emailed to him in text form, usually written with instructions to draw something incredibly labor-intensive, then turns around and makes them into cartoons. There's a lot of back-and-forth as we make revisions or suggestions to better sell a given gag, and as far as I know, he's never told us all to go to hell.
